rehyphen's first debut showcase in Paris

Maison & Object Paris is a bi-annual international innovative lifestyle rendez-vous with Paris as its backdrop, focus on all curated new and now design. The theme for this year is "Regeneration," marking its 15th anniversary by focusing on renewal, rebirth, and design's role in cultural, environmental, and digital transformation.
In conjunction with 15th anniversary Paris Design Week, re_hyphen is proudly to be the only brand from Singapore to present our collection at Maison & Object Paris 2025, with other 500+ designers across 375 venues. This event attracted 250,000 visitors in total over these ten days!
"Ready cassette, go!" is the first mobile cassette tapes museum that pop up in different cities, founded by rehyphen® that use MUSIC as an important tool to pass climate change messages to the general public in a non-formal manner. Our booth located at Hall 7 - T30, Gift & Play section. Besides showcasing our MusicCloth city collection, we also showcase our "timeless" collection, where each MusicCloth clock was specially design to turn in anti-clockwise direction to bring people back to the cassette era. Our walkman station allowed visitor and kids to experience the old school way of listening music. Furthermore, our artisan was demonstrating on spot to show visitor how we weave cassette tapes into a piece of cloth.
Since 2016, we have been practicing in transforming post-consumer waste into primary material for production that connects human back to nostalgia and collective memories. Waste becomes waste, because it has no longer carries any connection with the owner who owed it before. The critical part is to find out how can we bridge that connection back. rehyphen was founded with the goal to use MUSIC as a tool to bridge this connection and pass climate change messages to the public in a non-formal manner. We specialised in weaving discarded cassette tapes into pieces of MusicCloth®, as an effort to reduce and eliminate plastic waste, while giving the product a new life. This introduction of new hybrid system that bridge design circularity ( reverse supply chain, up-cycling and recycling) and emotional circularity ( nostalgia and memory ) which contribute a new framework to the contemporary design world to solve waste issues. It also offers a new tool to build emotional connections between people and waste. All our cassette tapes were donated from public as well as organisation like United International Pictures, SPH and Mediacorp where all of their archive has been digitalised and physical archive has no longer serve it purpose. According to a press from MIT, there were 56 million kilograms of PLASTIC used to make physical cassette tapes since it first introduced to the world in 1963. That is just part of the environmental cost in the music industry, not including vinyl and CD. Furthermore, waste as resources could help reconstruct memories, as well as powerful brand storytelling strategies in today’s culture of designed to forget. From our observation these years, the trend of future of luxury is not about new products, markets, or ideas, it is about something deeper -- our memory. By weaving MusicCloth®, we are able to keep a moment alive far beyond the moment itself and give the product a luxury integrity, an inner depth.
