Kind of blue record 感傷唱片行 is the only cassette tapes store in Taiwan. Located at Taichung MeiChun road, a small alley along with other hipster stores and cafes. We first met the owner Mr. 游 when he participated in one of our "ready, cassette, go!" up-cycling workshop. We were thrilled to share our stories during the workshop session and it synced perfect to Kind of Blue record's objective. The collaboration ideas formed immediately on the day!
The exhibition named "Ready, Cassette, Go! - rehyphen MusicCloth exhibition" where we showcased our Musician Portraits which were weaved out of discarded cassette tapes. This new series of MusicCloth Musician portraits included David Bowie, The Beatles, Bob Dylan, Madonna and Leslie Cheung along with different vintage radios which collected by Mr. 游 from the vintage market many years ago. Besides, customer could also customised 140 characters in a cassette tapes, which we named this product "tweet tape" for them to send it to their loved one as a unique greeting card.
On the opening day of the exhibition, we conducted our "ready, cassette, go!" up-cycling workshop for Kind of Blue Record customer to experience weaving cassette tapes. The workshop were conducted on the upper level of the store and we hosted about twenty participants in two days. Participants weaved cassette tapes into a travel card size MusicCloth sticker where they could stick it on their travel card as a reminder whenever they go!
The exhibition lasted about 3 months in Kind of Blue records and it was a wonderful experience to meet new people and involved ourself in this growing cassette culture scene in Taiwan. At the same time, spreading sustainability and up-cycling design to the other part of the world.
