MusicCloth becomes the story similar to Parley for the Oceans & Emeco’s Coca Cola Navy Chair.
Founded over 25 years ago as a resource for furniture and architectural design, Material ConneXion is a world-class materials library and consultancy. They are known for innovative problem solving and thought leadership by the most influential brands across every industry. Their headquarter is located in New York Liberty Street and also have libraries worldwide which included Milan, Spain, Sweden, Denmark, Bangkok, Daegu and Tokyo.
Today, in addition to curating material libraries and 8,000 material collections around the globe, MCX helps companies source materials that enhance the performance, aesthetic, and sustainability of their projects. The first MusicCloth - an innovative material weaved out of discarded cassette tapes were first sent to Material conneXion library in the early 2016 and was included in its library since then.

The executive vice president of Material ConneXion, Dr. Andrew Dent shared about how he view MusicCloth among other innovative materials in his library, when MusicCloth was selected, "Material ConneXion sources innovative materials from around the world for the design industry, including many of the top Fortune 500 consumer brands. The Rehyphen Music Cloth was sourced and then voted into our library. It garnered high votes from our jury with a lot of interest in its provenance and the sustainability story. This material has been a mainstay of presentations given by Material ConneXion in workshops globally, including Interior Design, Fast Company, ICFF, and many others. The material is used as a demonstration of sustainability through reuse of an existing, typically ‘waste’ resource, but also of a highly creative yet relatively low tech solve. It gives the lie to the idea that innovation needs to be technologically advanced, and also is one of a trend of ways in which the material becomes the story similar to Parley for the Oceans and Emeco’s Coca Cola Navy Chair. This type of initiative needs to be recognized more. Waste is an ever- increasing problem, and one that needs creative solutions, not just to reduce it but also to bring greater awareness within the population. Rehyphen achieves this in a clear and positive demonstration of waste reuse. ”
