Where people bond and stories are made

Kizuna is a cafe shop that was once a called Shangri-La Confectionary and Delicatessen, located in the Potong Pasir neighbourhood courtyard.
Staying in Japan for 8 years, the shop owner is the 3rd generation who decided to revamping the family legacy from a bakery to a cafe. Shen’s aunt was a second-generation owner who run the Shangri-La bakery and was looking to retire and hand over the family’s legacy to Shen Hui.
Instead of continuing with the bakery, Shen decided to start a cafe, envisioning a community for people to interact in a space surrounded by environmentally-conscious materials. Kizuna was opened during the circuit breaker period and survive throughout the long and unprecedented year. Her plan of building a community space to using environmentally-friendly materials has to paused at that time.

Shen Hui is one of rehyphen's customer when rehyphen just started. Our founder J.J. Chuan first met Shen Hui at one of the cafe in the town to pass her her customised order. It was a MusicCloth Germany map that she customised online. Since then, their friendship grown and turned into a meaningful collaboration in her own cafe shop!

Kizuna means "bond or connections between people" in Japanese. It is also Japan's 'Kanji of 2011', the year which the tsunami hits, summarising the Japanese's spirit to unite and bond to overcome all hardships. This “K” is a special collaboration project with Kizuna. Our artisan selected “The art of noise” cassette tape, and spent about 180 minutes to weave the logo “K”.
This exhibition in Kizuna cafe was not just an ordinary showcase, but a showcase to bring people back to the cassette tapes era and make people feel good after the Covid pandemic circuit breaker lifted.
The iconic collaboration piece is the The Chinese character 家 (jiā) means 'home' in English. Each MusicCloth® 家 poster is weaved from original cassette tapes. People could also scan the QR code in store to listen to our specially-curated secret playlist of songs all related to the concept of 'home'.
We've included nine timeless oldies, as well as an original track written by a musician friend in remembrance of his father who had passed away before he could reach home to see him one last time - a touching and poignant piece that reminds each of us to treasure every moment with our families.
The poster also come with the meaning of JIA " The magical thing about home is that it feels good to leave, and it feels even better to come back."

During the exhibition period, Kizuna was also served retro cassette cold brew as a special edition for this showcase!
