The name of “Sound and Vision” is inspired by David Bowie 11th album, which released in 1977 by RCA record. In this gallery, we are curating an art space that combines Sound and Vision, where all artworks curated in the gallery have to fulfill sound and vision elements. The sound could be sounds from busy city streets, human conversations, music that connect the artwork. Visitors will get an immersive experience by listening to the sound which depicted of the arts, and see the art works “alive”! Submit your artworks by 5th June 2026.

J.J. Chuan is a Singapore music composer and lyricist. She has been a resident in the music world since she was five years old. She weaves cassette tapes into pieces of MusicCloth®, collect stories and transfer them into words.
J.J. Chuan Yi Xin 逸馨 is a Singaporean bilingual lyricist, a designer, a material-led artist and a cassette tapes collector. She graduated from Parsons The New School of Design. She has lived and worked in Singapore, Malaysia, New York and Shanghai, shaping a multi-local perspective that informs her creative work.
She is best known for pioneering MusicCloth®, a textile woven from discarded cassette and video tapes developed through her upcycling initiative Rehyphen®. By transforming obsolete materials into a new artistic medium, Chuan challenges perceptions of waste while opening conversations on value, memory and sustainability.
Chuan was originally born in Malaysia, educated in Singapore and New York with a couple of years of working experiences in Shanghai. Covid-19 pandemic in 2020 marked as a turning point for her, as she started to pick up her dream in lyrics writing. Both of Chuan's two key mentors Xiaohan 小寒 and Vincent Fang 方文山 guided her for 2 years in her lyrics learning journey before she released her first co-write song.
Chuan recent released co-write songs included Donnie Yen's daughter Jasmine Yen’s first single <idk> and first album <tbh>, and Diana Wang <Bedroom> which all released by Sony Music Entertainment's RCA Greater China Record. Besides, she also co-write lyrics of <過客>for Mediacorp TV drama <Kid U Not>. As a musician, she creatively combines her music talent into her artwork where each piece of her artwork comes with her music demo that inspired by the music from the cassette tapes when she weaves. Collectors would be able to access her music demo and feel a multi-sensory experience that she preserved. This fusion of past and present, heritage and contemporary art, material and sound, weaves a compelling narrative of cultural continuity and environmental responsibility.
Her new artwork collection "Harmonograph: The Mathematics of music“, "Old soul, New Spirit”&"Yesterday Once More" is a modular art pieces where she invite collectors to arrange the art pieces based on their own space and taste. This collection could be display as a whole or individually stand alone.
Her lyrics's writing style combines her multi-national background and diverse experiences in life with a touch of retro elements that is encoded in a cassette tapes collector's genes. Her expertise lies in lyrics translation, dual language lyrics and Chinese gu-feng lyrics.
Music Genre: Chinese Gu-Feng style, Rap, Jazz, R&B, Pop Rock, Kpop, Ballad, TV drama, Movie and Games songs.
逸馨，是一名雙語作詞人，設計師和卡帶收藏家。
自五歲開始就接觸音樂。目前的工作是將卡帶再生設計編織成音樂面料。在這過程中，她搜集它們的故事，並將之轉成文字。
逸馨出生於馬來西亞，在新加坡和紐約受教育，隨後在上海工作了幾年。2020年冠病期間，她決定重拾中學時的音樂夢，上了新加坡小寒老師和台灣方文山老師的作詞班，進而開啟填詞的音樂之旅。合作的藝人包括荷蘭籍亞洲知名創作型女歌手王詩安和甄子丹愛女甄濟如的第一首單曲和第一張專輯的主打歌音樂填詞專案。此外，她也有為新傳媒的電視連續劇《孩是老的辣》歌曲《過客》填詞。
由於精通雙語和自身浸泡在東西方文化之間，加上長期收集卡帶，那些七零，八零年代的中英文老歌對她而言都是一首首新歌，讓她百聽不厭。她憑藉著自己豐富多元的生活體驗，和對音樂文字的敏感，通過自己日常觀察，以中西方的視角詮釋，將它轉換成粒粒文字，經歌手的演唱去感染大眾，產生共鳴 ，療癒人心。尤其擅長翻譯，雙語混搭填詞和中國風專案。
Vision
“Yesterday Once more” is inspired by Carpenters album Now & Then which released by A & M studio in 1973. Our founder JJ Chuan transformed obsolete materials - cassette tapes into a new artistic medium, with an innovative weaving techniques. Chuan challenges perceptions of waste while opening conversations on value, memory and sustainability.

Her contributions have earned her international recognition, including being named one of Kevin McCloud’s Top 7 Green Heroes (2018 & 2019), inclusion in the Red Dot Design Museum’s 100 Asia’s social design showcase (2020), and recognition as one of Singapore’s Inspiring Women Leaders by City Developments Limited (2020).
Chuan has showcased her work during Bangkok Biennale, Maison & Object Paris, Taipei Not Just a Library, Art Jamel Dubai, Red Dot Museum China, Pitti Uomo 97, Affordable Art Fair, New York Time Square and more.
Singapore Pressing Challenge
Singapore is officially a super-aged nation in 2026, with over 21% population, more than one in five Singaporean aged 65 and older (CNA,2026). In Singapore, an estimated 74,000 seniors live with dementia, approximately 1 in 11 individuals aged 60 and above lives with dementia. This percentage increases with age, with a staggering 1 in 2 people aged 85 and above diagnosed with dementia. (Dementia hub SG, 2026).
Sound and Vision Gallery collaborate with Dementia Singapore, where we conduct cassette tapes weaving workshop with individuals with dementia and their families in the gallery space. According to the Bethesda Health, the power of reminiscing and evolving nostalgia through viewing old photographs, listening to a familiar song, or tasting childhood foods and smells is one of the best activities that benefit seniors’ mind and body, especially for seniors with dementia ( Bethesda Health, 2021) .
50% of the proceed from all art works sold will be donated to Dementia Singapore to support individuals with dementia and their caregiver families.
